Or better yet, sign up for the online My Business Account service, and you’ll never again need an access code.  You can file your GST/HST return from directly within the My Business Account service.

Employers, if you have hired a new apprentice, don’t miss out on the Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit.  A very generous tax credit, this can save you up to $2,000 per employee per year.  Your employee must be enrolled in a Red Seal Trade, but you might be surprised what types of trades qualify.  Did you know that cooks and hair stylists are Red Seal eligible trades?

When to start paying into CPP

Reminder for employers:  if you are planning to hire a student or young person, remember that they are not required to pay into CPP until they turn 18.  If you are under the age of 18, you are exempt from contributing to the Canada Pension Plan.  You begin deducting CPP in the month after they turn 18.

So, if your employee turns 18 on January 15, 2012, you begin deducting CPP from their pay in February 2012.

RRSP Deadline: 2012

Don’t miss the boat on RRSP’s…….. 2012 is leap year, so rather than your usual March 1st deadline, you only have until February 29, 2012 to purchase an RRSP for the 2011 tax return.
