New! Sending me your tax files

November 10th, 2011

To my clients: Please note that it is now easier than ever to send me your tax files (e.g. Simply Accounting backups, Quick Books backup, etc.)

On my home page, look in the bottom right hand corner.  Click on Choose File, then browse to your file.  Then click on Upload File Now, and the file is sent to me.   This is faster and more efficient than emailing.

(I would request that you either send me an email or give me a phone call to notify me that you sent the file.)

Thanks to Nick Gunn from Scotia Systems for doing this.

Email Fraud

July 6th, 2010

Have you recently received an email from the Government of Canada offering you a refund?  And all you have to do is complete the Refund Form?

Several of my clients have contacted me already after receiving this email, questioning its validity.  And rightly so.  This is a definite scam, and if you receive this email you can see if it matches with similar scam emails posted on their website.

Federal Budget 2010

March 1st, 2010

Finance Minister Flaherty will deliver the 2010 federal budget on March 4 at around 4:00 on EST (that’s 5:00 pm for those of us in Nova Scotia.)

We have been duly warned not to expect anything in this budget except bare-bones stuff.  No more renovation tax breaks.  No more big breaks for homeowners.

We’ll see if the current Conservative government can resist slipping in a couple of tax breaks, for the headlines they will make if nothing else.

Explaining the flag

February 20th, 2010

A Dutchman was explaining the red, white, and blue Netherlands flag to an American.

“Our flag is symbolic of our taxes. We get red when we talk about them, white when we get our tax bills, and blue after we pay them.”

The American nodded. “It’s the same in the USA only we see stars, too!”
